Bienfait- Library History

Bienfait, Saskatchewan, Canada

An organizational meeting was held on Sept. 24, 1974. Mr. Wahl from Weyburn headquarters was present to offer guidance.

The First Library Board consisted of:

  • Mr. Miles (President),
  • Hilda Carlson, nee Prescott (Vice-President), (see below)
  • Judy Dzuba (Librarian and Board Secretary),
  • Ed Gough,
  • Monica Trach,
  • Cora Lee,
  • Tom Gambles.

The Library officially opened on Nov. 15, 1975 in the Senior Citizen’s building, at 402 Carbon Ave.

  • The hours were: 2-5 P.M. (Mondays and Thursdays), and 6-9 P.M. Tuesday evenings.
  • The town’s library needs were previously met with the service of a bookmobile.
  • The Library Week celebration in 1975 consisted of a display of books at the Senior Citizen’s St. Patrick’s Day Tea.
  • The library had been housed in the front of the 55 & Over Centre for 29 years.

Shirley Ann Tuchscherer, nee Wagner (1990-2005).

  • b- Oct. 15, 1952, d- Feb. 11, 2005
  • Sister to my friends, Wayne, Richard, and Lorne Wagner.


The New Library is now at 414 Main St., opened Nov 20th, 2004
