Mr. E. W. Costello He was Chairman of Pembina Resources Ltd. when he retired. A lawyer in Calgary. 1955 he was Secretary for Mannix Ltd., and Mannix-O'Sullivan Paving Ltd. Pipeline Contractors Association of Canada, PLCAC, elected Everett Costello their First President. He attended University of Alberta in Edmonton for his law degree. Became Lance Corporal in Royal Army Service Corp in Red Deer. then attained rank of Captain, in WWII Shortly after the war he became Corporate Lawyer of the Mannix Group, working for his friend Fred Mannix E.W. Costello Scholarship at U of Calgary, named after him. Family nickname “Boysie” He married Florence Genevieve Ballachey of High River AB. Costello, was his brother William Costello, and his wife Sarah, they had 5 children arriving in Calgary and their 6th child: John Calgary Costello, b- Nov 17, 1883 was the First White Child born in the new site of Calgary. He was to be given 2 free lots in Calgary, on 7th ave, near 1st E. but an article in June 1909, states he sold the 25 ft lot for $18,000, and it was on 8 Ave. Across from the Post Office. Imagine the cost of this lot today. He was one of the honoured guests at the first Calgary Stampede in 1912. He became a business man in Everett Washington Costello Mine, 4km east of Estevan, was named after this man, Located at Township 2, Range 7, W2 1983 the Costello Mine was owned by Manalta Coal which was owned by the Mannix Family. ca 1982 they invested 25 million on the dragline alone. I believe this mine was the Klimax Mine, before it became the Costello Mine.
