Taylorton Church

One history book claims a Presbyterian Church at Coalfields
was built by Rev. James Lang, (my educated guess, see below)
with the help of the William Lemond Hamilton family.

Rev. James Lang (#9 below) was the son of Captain John Lang,
a veteran of the war of 1812, and noted Presbyterian Minister in Ottawa.
James's mother was Hanna Lowe.
James's Grandfather was Edward Lang.
James Lang was the first settler in the district south of Brandon MB, which was named after his family,
It was called Lang's Valley, shortened to Langvale, 2-6-18-W.
James homesteaded there in June 1880, coming from Ottawa, ON.
With him was his older brother, Edward “Ed” Lang.

He was with Grant on the advance upon Richmond.
Engineer, and Surveyor for Canadian Govt., when he was younger.
He surveyed the Boundary Line between Canada and USA.
Military Instructor in Ottawa for 5 years.
He was appointed to Governor General of Canada
but owing to a death, his Commission was not signed.
married Mary Cochrane, Dec 5, 1889 in Milwaukee, WI
married to Carrie P. Lang, nee Patrick, at one time.
had a daughter, Mrs. Thomas F. Beadnell
who lived at 1028 Elmwood Ave. in Racine
at time of her father's funeral.
