The Post Office, Federal Building, was built and located on this site, prior to it's move north, a couple of blocks.

Weddings even took place in this building.

First Teacher- Mr Freeman
Constructed in 1894, by Mr George Rooks, master stonemason.
In Pictures above, part on left, at rear, was built first, and used as a School in 1895

Mr. R. E. McCullough (alt spelling- Mr. McCulloch from Regina) was the teacher.
Mr W. E. Ellis in Dec 26, 1967 Leader Post article said one of the early teachers was Bert McCullough. same guy?
He also said Mr. Freeman was an early teacher, which fits line above.
He also remembered a Murdock McLean as an early teacher. Was this the Mr. McLean that opereated an early hotel in Estevan?
Mr. Ellis claimed first teacher in Estevan was a Mr. Wilson, which fits my First school history.

Alexander Started teaching school at Mount Forest, ON, in 1894
He Came West to Regina in 1899
He attended Normal School in Regina in 1899
Taught school at Winlaw for 4 years before coming to Estevan
His obit says Gainsbourough School?
He taught school in Estevan for about 4 years before going into the Lumber Business
He retired in 1935 from the lumber business in Estevan
In 1907 he became a member and Secretary of the School Board
He was member of the Collegiate Board 1912-1924

June 16, 1905 they were given legal permission to borrow $6,000 to build the addition to the Stone School.

It housed Both Elementary and High School Classes, Until Jan 21, 1914 when ECI opened.
First High School Principal- (Dr) John Henry McKechnie (1907-1910)
He became Deputy Minister of Education in SK

1917- Miss Gladys M. R. Scott was grade 2 teacher here

before 1938- Mrs. Clendenan, nee Hall, was a teacher here. date unknown

her husband M. L. Clendenan was born in Lindsay ON, arrivied in Estevan in 1906

1937- S. McLeod- Principal

Teacher- date before 1940- Pearl McDonald who became wife of Dr. Harrison Mullet.

1946- Grades 7 and 8 were moved to the Collegiate (ECI) where the gymnasium was converted to 2 classrooms
