Educated and spent her early life in Montreal, following her marriage she went to Manitoba

Sir Douglas was President of the Maple Leaf Milling Co., July 1920 which controlled the Maple Leaf Flour Mill.

May 14, 1915 he was appointed Honorary Chairman of a committee struck by the Winnipeg Council to help returning soldiers.
He was instrumental in forming a Co-op Lumber business in Vancouver, that was designed to help returning soldiers get a job.
