Researching the Assiniboia and North-West Coal Company, aka Gow Mine, I found one of the shareholders of that mine was Daniel Hugh Coates, from Winnipeg, MB,
Occupation- Fruiterer. My bet it was this man involved with this mine.

He was an OddFellow and a Mason
In 1901 this Daniel was already in the Yukon for 4 1/3 years, a partner with a George McLeod, who also came from Winnipeg at the same time.
Sept 1897 he headed to the Yukon with 27 other men from Winnipeg.
Then I found same name in Winnipeg in 1901, shown as a Miner, age 35
1889 he came to Winnipeg from ON
Owner and Operator of the Old Tropical Fruit Depot on Main St. in Winnipeg.
1891 he is age 24, born in ON, living in Winnipeg, shown as a fruiterer and confectioner.
he became a mail carrier in the Yukon at one point. Involved in trade and commerce there after the gold ming ended.
Nov 24, 1923 he was voted the most handsome man in the Yukon, and nickname was “Handsome Dan”
He was President of the Dawson Hockey league at that time
He owned the fastest horse in the Yukon, named “Starlight” that held a pacing record in Vancouver
