Originally this was First Nation “Kaska” aka “Casca” Reserve area
They are related to the Tahltan.
Later the name was changed to “Cassiar”
Located at the South end of Dease Lake
In 1837 a Hudson's Bay Co. Post was established at Lake House by Robert Campbell

It took 2 1/2 days by horseback to ride to Telegraph Creek from this location
The Lake had been named in 1834 for Chief HBC Factor Peter Warren Dease (see Ext links below)
